Closer, but not good enough
Once again a glance at the box score makes it hard to figure the final score. GOOD: The Crew once again outhit the Yankees (8-6). Ryan Braun had 3 hits and a SB. His hitting streak is at a career high 19 games and he is one stolen base from a career high (it isn’t even July!!!). The pitching was better tonight. Shaun Marcum struggled with his pitch count but was effective except for...

Let's try this again, lineup for Brewers/Yankees
Brewers: 2B Rickie Weeks CF Nyjer Morgan LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart DH Mat Gamel 3B Casey McGehee SS Yuniesky Betancourt C Jonathan Lucroy Shaun Marcum and A.J. Burnett will be the pitchers. No word yet on the Yankees lineup. Finally Casey McGehee has dropped in the lineup. Maybe this will light a fire under him. Or take pressure off him. Or anything to not make him...

Not a great start
Just looking at the box score, it is hard to see how the score was that lopsided. Anyways, I didn’t get to see the game, but here is the good bad anyway. GOOD: The Brewers actually had more hits than the Yankees (12-10). Every starter had at least one hit, except Yuniesky Betancourt (but he had a sacrifice fly). Mat Gamel and Jonathan Lucroy had 2 hits a piece. It was a good start for...

Weeks takes NL vote lead at second base →
stepharoo22: WOOHOO! I voted at least 50 times yesterday with his name in the 2B hole. He has been having a great year…he really deserves to go to the All Star Game. Now, off to go use other people’s emails to vote more for my man Rickie! haha

Get out the brooms!
Narveson pitched a very solid game as the Brewers get a much needed sweep of the Minnesota Twins. They increase their lead to 3 games over St. Louis and 4 games over the Pirates and Reds. GOOD: Chris Narveson showed once again why he can be considered one of the top 5th starters in the majors. He pitched 6.2 giving up only two runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Ryan Braun extended his career best...

Looking at the Twins lineup hurts my eyes
Even though they just went up 1-0 I’m glad I’m not a Twins fan right now. In today’s lineup they have 6 guys batting .250 or less. Only Michael Cuddyer (.292), Ben Revere (.270), and Alexi Casilla (.255) are over .250. Makes having McGehee and Betancourt in the lineup not look so bad.

Another big win vs. the Twins
Brewers take the first two from the short-handed Minnesota Twins. GOOD: Pretty much everything, not many mistakes in this game. Yovani Gallardo started a bit slow, allowing a run, three walks, and a hit in the first two innings, but he recovered nicely. He went 7 innings only giving up the one run. He also added a hit that sent Carlos Gomez from 1st the 3rd with one out. Carlos Gomez had a...

– Ron Darling “joyous” over gay marriage news | New York Daily News (via sportsnetny) Ron Darling says what many are afraid to. Kudos to him and Congrats to the people of New York. Honestly, this was overdue and I hope this is a stepping stone for the rest of the country.

Random basketball thoughts
I know this isn’t a basketball blog and I care very little for the NBA, but I need to comment on something that I found a bit interesting. Usually, sports news outlets generally agree on the major stuff, in this case “winners” and “losers” of draft day. For those that don’t pay attention (honestly, if the Bucks weren’t involved, I wouldn’t have known...

One game, one win in the books in the Border...
It took some late inning runs to salt this one away. Luckily Prince came through with some speed on the bases. GOOD: Randy Wolf pitched very well except for 3 batters in the 6th. He also picked up 2 hits which probably mean he has more than his ex-personal catcher Wil Nieves. (He isn’t even with the team and I still need to take shots at that hack, what’s wrong with me?) Rickie...

Not a great Miller Park season debut for me
A good time was had, but my buddy Shawn experienced a loss on his birthday for the first time. We had decent seats that we had to buy from a guy in the lot because the game was sold out except for some nosebleed seats. Nobody got arrested and we made it back home safe so the day was a success. GOOD: Shaun Marcum and Marco Estrada combined to give up 3 runs in 6 innings with 6 K’s....

I finally get to go to a game this season
And Shaun Marcum is able to make his start. The pitching matchup is a good one, Shaun Marcum vs. David Price. Hopefully, I will get some pictures at the game that I can upload and they will get a win to take the series. GO CREW!!

Off the snide, back on top
Big win for the Crew tonight, Zack Greinke was dealing. GOOD: Zack Greinke pitched very well, striking out 10 in 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits and zero walks. Jonathon Lucroy had three hits, including two infield singles. And he got a pie in the face during the postgame interview courtesy of LaTroy Hawkins, which is always fun. Kameron Loe and John Axford worked scoreless innings in...

Ron Roenicke's bullpen handling skills
I am starting to wonder if Roenicke has any clue how to run a bullpen. First piece of evidence, Kameron (B)Loe. He has pitched in 38(!) of the Brewers 74 games, yet he has one of the highest ERAs and most losses (6). Roenicke’s argument is that Loe is a sinkerballer and he needs to work to keep the sink. Maybe he needs to not work to get the sink. Four of his six losses have come on days...

Crew drop first game of series to the Rays
In doing so, the crew lose their week long hold to at least a piece of first place in the NL Central. GOOD: Jonathan Lucroy hit his seventh HR. Chris Narveson pitched pretty well until the seventh inning. Yuniesky Betancourt had two hits and two RBI. Rickie Weeks also had two hits. LaTroy Hawkins pitched a scoreless ninth dropping his ERA to 0.47.  BAD: The bullpen doomed them again,...

Plunking
oldtimefamilybaseball: Tony LaRussa takes sleights and imagined sleights more seriously than any manager who has gone near a baseball field in the 21st century, the latest example being Alex Gordon’s new bruise after yesterday’s game between the Cardinals and the Royals. A statement beaning is standard practice, but this time, it didn’t make much sense. Consider: Brian Tallet, a lefty...

Crew drops finale to Sox
GOOD: Not much. Prince Fielder hit HR number 20. Nyger Morgan homered as well. LaTroy Hawkins keeps throwing up goose eggs. His ERA is down to 0.49. BAD: Yovani Gallardo crapped all over himself from the jump. Sergio Mitre gave up 3 runs in 3 innings. Mark Difelice gave up a run in his season debut. Only 4 hits today and 3 off Wakefield. If I remember, the last time the Crew faced...
