Batting averages of today’s starters

  1. .323
  2. .365
  3. .326
  4. .345
  5. .225
  6. .300 (Jeff Bianchi in very limited at-bats)
  7. .175
  8. .183
  9. .059

Let’s hope the bottom does something today.

The Crew finally won.

The top 4 of the order and Jeff Bianchi did literally all the work.

You can expect more of the same today, the lineup after Carlos Gomez, batting cleanup for the first time in his career, looks dreadful.

The master of making it look like he wants people to focus on someone else, yet still making himself the center of attention. Bravo, Mr. Spotlight.

After running his pitch count up (59 pitches after 3 innings), Gallardo throws an 8 pitch 4th and a 6 pitch 5th. Still 0-0, Yo has held the Pirates to just 1 hit.

Everyone freaks out over Weeks but honestly, what can they do? Someone has to stick her head out of her ass and start hitting. They’re all capable of doing a lot better.

The real scary thing is that Weeks, for as bad as he has been, still has a higher on-base average than Betancourt, Lucroy, Maldonado, Gonzalez, and everyone else except for the big 4 and Aramis. To put it in perspective: Betancourt has a batting average that is 55 points higher than Weeks, yet his on-base average is 40 points lower than Weeks’. Rickie leads the team in walks with 22.

Getting on base has value. Weeks hasn’t been good, but many fans are using him as the main scapegoat of their struggles thus far. He deserves to shoulder some of the blame, but fans have to realize that he isn’t the only one struggling and getting rid of him isn’t going to make things better.

Agreed. Braun is gonna have to go on one of those psychotic hitting spells he does sometimes to make up for it but he shouldn’t be doing that!!! You would think Gonzalez and Betancourt especially would want to do well in this time before Hart is back

Braun has been hitting well. The difference is his home runs are a bit down from where we are used to seeing. He is hitting a solid .315/.400/.591, good for 10th/8th/6th, respectively, in the NL. I don’t think we will see any drastic results unless one of the tomato cans start hitting. Segura and Gomez have been on fire, with Braun and Aoki right behind them and it hasn’t been enough. Their pitching isn’t good enough for that.

its really pathetic. if weeks or lucroy could turn it around and actually, like, get a fucking hit on a consistent basis it would take at least some of the pressure off of the first 4.

If only it were just them. Aramis Ramirez has been fine, but whoever has been playing 1st, 2nd, or catcher has brought little to the table. Weeks has been remarkably bad, Lucroy hasn’t been much better, Gonzalez has been trash when he is healthy enough to play, Maldonado hits like a backup, defense-first catcher (imagine that), Lalli hits like a backup, little-league catcher (and not the ones you would see on ESPN), and if you take away the RBI and few clutch homers Betancourt is what he has always been ( his OBP is 40 points lower than Weeks’).

Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez should be locks for the All-Star game right now and Norichika Aoki and Ryan Braun are both having good seasons as well. The efforts of those four are being squandered right now because half of the lineup is in the toilet.
